Dear College Parents

"Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow" - Helen Keller

Our Head Boy Christian Rohrer started with his chemo treatment at the Rondebosch Oncology Hospital on Wednesday. I visited him yesterday and he is in good spirits. He is going home later today and week 1 of cycle 1 has gone well. The family is extremely grateful for the support they have received from the Bishops Community. We continue to hold Christian and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

EVENSONG

The College Evensong is next week on Wednesday at 6.30 pm. This is a compulsory event except for Grade 9s who are excused on this occasion for space reasons. We welcome parents to join us at this service.

FUTURE FITTING OF BISHOPS FOR SUSTAINABILITY

On Wednesday 2 February all Gr 9 boys were involved in a Sustainability Workshop run by Plant the Seed and the Biology department. The boys learnt about compost making, permaculture and planted up Gropros (http://www.gropro.co.za/) which can be seen in School, White and Kidd House. With help from Turfworks, the boys planted a vegetable and herb garden behind the new Oaks Pavilion. Please do have look when you are on campus.

Stage 3 B Water restrictions have been implemented. As part of Bishops’ commitment to reducing water usage there will be no reseeding of the rugby fields in preparation for the rugby season. Many of the buildings on campus now have waterless urinals, and other water saving measures will be instituted in the future.

NEW MOTHERS LUNCH

We enjoyed a wonderful new mothers lunch yesterday and were very encouraged by the record turnout! Some mothers asked me to send them my speech so I have attached it to this newsletter for those interested and for those who could not attend the lunch.

PAVING IN FRONT OF FOUNDERS HOUSE AND AROUND THE BROOKE CHAPEL

We apologise for the continued inconvenience caused by the delay in completion of this project. Matters were exacerbated by floods at the quarry in the Free State from which the cobble stones for paving are sourced.

Please see the attached assembly notices.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Yours sincerely
