Dear College Parents

"The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose. " - Arnold Bennett

I welcome you all to the start of a new year. A school is such a dynamic and exciting place to be in at a time like this. On Wednesday we welcomed 159 new grade 8 boys to the school from 33 different schools, with Bishops Prep (75) and Western Province Prep (43) being the major feeder schools. In addition we welcomed 3 new boys in to grade 9, 7 in to grade 10 and 5 in to grade 11. We trust that their time at Bishops will be fulfilling and a special journey. Our total enrolment this year is 777 boys, a record number!

Matric results

You will have received the summary of our excellent Matric results from the class of 2016. At the WCED Awards Ceremony held at the Leeuwenhof, home of the Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille on Wednesday, Bishops received the following awards:

Nicholas Janisch and Alexander Peile received merit certificates for achieving full marks (100%) for Mathematics.

Nicholas Janisch and Daniel Tate received merit certificates for coming in the top 20 in the Western Cape.

Bishops received a merit certificate for being one of the top 3 Independent Schools in the Western Cape. (The others being Herschel and Springfield Convent). This was the “cherry on the top” of a superb performance by our boys, well done!

We have also heard the good news that Daniel Tate and Matthew Perrott have been awarded Allan Gray Fellowships; well done!

Estate Development

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the paving work in the area in front of Founders House. This will be completed by the end of January. Myschool Card

Assembly notices and Principal’s Message

For the information of new parents, this Principal’s newsletter is sent on a fortnightly basis. I always include assembly notices and my message to the boys so that you can engage with them on the issues which are being dealt with.

Have a wonderful year.

Yours sincerely
