Dear College Parents

We have come to the end of a very busy but productive term.

Last week was our Founders Week which culminates with Founders Day always held on the Friday closest to our Foundation Day which is the 15th March. This year we welcomed back the classes of 1946, ’56, ’66, ’76 and 86. Our guest speaker at the Founder’s Day Service was Simon Peile, OD 1979. Simon gave an excellent and interesting talk about his life as an adventurer and explorer and challenged the boys to always follow their passion. In his instance this has continued throughout his life through his passion for birdin

At Assembly on Monday we were able to celebrate some truly fantastic achievements and performances of our boys:

All Shook Up

I would like to congratulate all of those involved in the superb production of the musical “All Shook Up”. It was truly a spectacular performance and in the view of many the best Bishops production ever! I want to congratulate every single boy involved; from the superb lead performance by Julien Schlebusch, supported by Troy Horrell, Joe Linley, Matt Clayton, Chris Hyslop, Marcus Knight, Joshua Mol, Joshua van Breda and the incomparable Mitchell Christy, to every actor, singer and dancer on stage, the brilliant orchestra who never missed a beat, the excellent sound, lighting and backstage crew - they all played their part. We need to also acknowledge the exceptional performances by the girls who joined us for this production.

My congratulations to the Producer and Director Mr Tucker, Musical Director Mr Carletti, the Music staff, Mr Mitchell, Mrs Rutter, Mr Wrensch and all those staff involved in the myriad of roles which are required for a production of this kind.

A production of this nature takes many hours and weeks of hard work and dedication and we congratulate each and every one of the boys and staff for a truly memorable production.

Sport

You will see from the assembly notices that we have enjoyed fantastic success on the sporting front, particularly in rowing and water polo. Our 1st VIII achieved 3 gold medals at the Buffalo Regatta and 3 silver medals at the SA Championships at Roodepoort - the best ever performance by a Bishops rowing crew.

After their excellent performances at the major tournaments in Johannesburg our U14s, U15s and U19s all reached the finals of the Mazinter Cup at the Newlands Pool on Wednesday evening. Cheered on by fantastic support the U15s and U19s emerged victorious - a red letter day for Bishops water polo.
