Welcome to the exciting and dynamic project update page for the Bricks for Rick Appeal and thank you for your interest.
We launched this project in February 2008 with the aim of raising R 2 million by 8 October 2008. This is more than just a building in memory of a man not everybody will have known but a much needed facility for parents and boys. ODs want to leave a legacy honouring a great man and current parents focus is on the facilities and being able to create something for future generations.
Currently there is no structure on Lutgensvale and the field is used every day and weekend by boys from Pre prep, prep and college. We have had great support from the current Prep parent body and College are picking up the pace. So far we have received R 928, 919.47 and 166 bricks on the wall. We are appealing to ALL members of the Bishops family form past pupil to current parent and look forward to your support.
Please consider giving to this exciting project that will create a much needed clubhouse and facilities on Lutgensvale for generations to come. If we can raise the funds by October 2008 we can start building and complete in 2009. Every bit counts and there is no donation too small!
We are asking each person/corporate or family to give a brick at R5000. Every donation receives a section 18A tax certificate that qualifies you, the donor, to current tax benefits in South Africa- up to 10% of your taxable income as an individual or company. We only need 400 bricks and you can create a ‘syndicate’ of years of ODs or class groups of parents or even between families – you just have to agree on what happens if you win the Mini Cooper!
Each brick of R5000 qualifies you for a ticket to win a Mini Cooper. Just imagine – you can have only one of 400 tickets to win a car! Auric Auto has shown their support by offering Bishops this car as part of the appeal that you can win. All donations , no matter what size will be entered into the prize draw at the end of the appeal but only a ‘brick’ of R5000 enters you into the Mini Cooper draw.
Read more of the list of people that have shown their support and now have a ‘brick on the wall’.
Mentor, friend, school master and coach
Rick Skeeles was the quintessential prep school master. He followed in the footsteps of the great Bishops Prep School Masters such as Pieter van der Bijl, Herbie Selfe & Peter le Mesurier.
Rick not only excelled in the sport of rugby, but also coached the Prep 2nd XI cricket and the U10A cricket side for many years.
He had the ability to relate closely to everyone he met, both young and old, and his memory lives on in all whose lives he touched.
We will be updating this site constantly with news and look forward to your support. Kindly contact me if you have any queries.
Kind regards
