  Sailing - Lipton Cup
01 September 2008

Congratulations to the DCYC Lipton Cup Team who completed their campaign last week by coming a credible 15 th overall.  After the disappointment of the fleet not being able (due to strong winds and heavy sea) to go out on Thursday, Friday was a glorious day.  It was made sweeter with the team securing an 8th place for the race!  Thanks to Andrew Thompson who managed the team so ably.


  Bishops vs ODs

The Bishops rugby season draws to a close with only the games vs the ODs and the House Sevens ahead. On Wednesday this week, five OD teams will play against the school's senior teams, with the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th XVs playing at 15h30 and the 1st XV at 16h30. Former Springbok centre Robbie Fleck leads the OD 1st XV as we say farewell and thank you to College Captain of Rugby Jo Cockburn, vice-captain Nico Loizides and their 1st XV of 2008.


  Bravery: Ian Austin
28 August 2008

Ian Austin in grade 11 is to be commended for coming to the assistance of another boy (Maxwell Houliston in grade 8) who was choking and had experienced serious breathing difficulties. Ian applied what is called the 'Heimlich Manoeuvre', and in so doing probably saved Maxwell's life. The importance of basic first aid skills is hereby emphasized.

28 August 2008

Bishops soccer teams did well in their first game against Redham on Wednesday. 27th of August.  The under 15 team beat Redham 6   nil  with Michel Comitis scoring 2 goals and Tim Swiel scoring 3 goals.

The under 19 team did well to hold Redham to a goalless draw.

  Hockey
26 August 2008

Gray House won both the Junior sixes and Interhouse 11-a-side knockout. They won the Junior Sixes 1-0 against Kidd and won the interhouse competition 6-3 against Ogilvie.

The U14A, U16A and 1st XI made the finals of the knockout competitions which will be played this evening, starting at 2:30.


  BISHOPS PLAY FESTIVAL
21 August 2008

This year’s Bishops Play Festival has drawn entries from Bishops, Cafda Youth Dance Company, Diane Knight’s School of Dance, Herzlia, Immaculata, , LEAP School, Reddam (Atlantic), Rustenburg, Sans Souci, Springfield, St Cyprian’s, Westerford, Wynberg Girls’ and the Z-Crew (Herschel/Bishops).
The festival is a celebration of one-act plays and dance items and the programme is different on each of the four nights. It runs from 9-12 September in the Bishops Memorial Theatre at 7pm. Tickets cost R30 and will be sold at the door. Proceeds will go to charity.
