Dear College Parents

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.": Dr Seuss

I welcome you all to the start of a new and exciting year at Bishops. It is good to be back after a very long holiday and be immersed in the excitement and anticipation of new beginnings. On Wednesday we welcomed 168 new boys to Bishops; 155 into Grade 8 and 13 into Grades 9-12. I would like to bring to your attention the following staff changes and promotions at the College:

New Teachers: Barry Emms (English); Sharief Peterson (English).

Responsibility Positions: Jenny Campbell (HOD Maths); Donovan Abrey (TIC Mountain Biking and Cycling); Gerry Noel (Assistant House Director Kidd House).

New Interns: Carrie Bester (English); Lauren Hunt (Maths/Science); William Du Plooy (Life Orientation); Alex Riley (IT).

New Stooges: Chris Ekron (Founders); Safa Naraghi (School).

Print Room Administrator : Bonny Padiachy.

BSU Interns : Cayley Conway; Casey Amley.

In welcoming the boys at Assembly on Wednesday I referred to a book that I had read in the holidays; “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel Brown; an inspirational story about the Washington State rowing crew which won the gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games in Germany. It is a great story which I encourage them to read; the following quote in the book is a good message on what we should all be striving for this year at Bishops:

“Harmony, balance and rhythm. They’re the three things that stay with you your whole life. Without them civilization is out of whack. And that’s why an oarsman, when he goes out in life, he can fight it, he can handle life. That’s what he gets from rowing.” George Yeoman Pocock.

At Bishops we must strive to live in harmony with one another; to have a balance between work and play and establish a rhythm in our routines and programme in order that we make the most of the opportunities available to us.

I wish you all a wonderful and fulfilling year.

Yours sincerely
