Dear College Parents

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.– Henry Ford

The past fortnight has been a difficult time for the Bishops Community as we have had to deal with a number of tragedies. Last Sunday one of our Dads, Mike Beachy Head, passed away suddenly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jane, children Jake (OD 2016), Luke (Ogilvie Grade 9) and daughter Astin.  On Thursday morning we were all stunned when our payroll administrator, Mandy Spreeth, died very suddenly. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Graeme, and her colleagues and friends. On Tuesday Father Terry Wilke took ill and was hospitalised. Thankfully he was discharged yesterday and is recuperating at home.

Grades 10-12 are busy with their mid-year exams and the Grade 8 and 9s begin on Wednesday next week. This weekend’s sports fixtures are against Paarl Gym, with the 1st XI hockey at 6.15pm this evening at Woodlands and the 1st XV rugby at 11.30 tomorrow morning on the Piley Rees.

The Extra Term bursary programme has been extremely successful since its pilot in 2016, and to date we have been able to offer 9 boys a Bishops education; deserving boys who would ordinarily not be able to afford this opportunity.

This programme offers parents, past parents, ODs and corporates the opportunity to support a boy through his time at College.  An optional mentorship programme allows the donor to meet and form a relationship with the boy (subject to certain guidelines) and both the school and beneficiary will keep you updated on his progress.

Please see here for additional information or to pledge your support for a 2018 candidate, should you wish.

Sure Bishops Travel would like to inform all parents that two full-time consultants are available at the Travel Agency next to the School Shop. Karen Hoard and Carol Maasch have vast experience between them and they can advise/book any leisure travel including Club Med, Beachcomber etc. Please feel free to visit them when next on the College campus.  Their office is next to the School Shop and they can be contacted at 021 6850560 or;;

Yours sincerely
