Dear College Parents

We come to the end of what has been another busy and productive term for Bishops. The matrics enjoyed a spectacular Matric Dance last night with the theme being “Year of the Tiger”. This is the last social occasion they will enjoy as a matric group and I am sure it will be an event they will remember forever. My sincere thanks go to Trudy Hoefnagels, Karen Morkel-Brink, Anthea Newbury and all the parents who contributed to the success of this memorable evening.

I would like to bring the following to your attention:

Vernon Wood

At the end of this term Vernon Wood leaves Bishops to pursue personal interests. Vernon has made his mark at Bishops over the past 8 years in so many ways. His wisdom and experience has been invaluable in guiding Bishops through substantial changes which have made Bishops a better place for all boys. One of the highlights of Vernon’s tenure was his leadership of the IBSC international conference held at Bishops last year. This was a fantastic conference which hosted 600 delegates from around the world. We wish Vernon and Betty-Anne all the very best in their new ventures.

Peter Westwood has been appointed Deputy Principal, to replace Vernon, from the start of next term. We congratulate Peter who we know has all the experience and attributes to fill this very important role. Mark Mitchell has been promoted to the position of Deputy Head: Culture with effect 1 January 2017. As you are aware Marcus Bizony retires at the end of the year and Dr Stephen Sproule has been appointed to succeed him. We also congratulate Jannie de Villiers who has been appointed Head of Oakhill School in Knysna from January next year. Leon Glanvill will be the new House Director of School House and Barry Emms will be the new Assistant House Director of Founders House.

History Tour to the Battlefields of Europe

During the June/July holidays a group of boys and staff toured the battlefields of Europe. Matt Derman produced this excellent video of the experience.
