Welcome from Grant Nupen, Principal
Welcome to the Bishops website, and I hope you enjoy finding out about our school and the wide community of people who make up Bishops. We are keen to show you what sort of school we are, and what we do for and with the boys who are our current pupils. We are blessed with a magnificent campus, situated in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, under the shade of Table Mountain.
There are lots of people who make up the school: the boys, the teachers and the support staff, the parents of both present as well as past pupils, and of course the huge array of Old Boys who live in many parts of the world. There are also prospective pupils and parents, and we welcome them especially to our website.
What is it that we believe makes our school special? We believe that our pupils are stretched in many areas of school life, and they are encouraged to aspire to excellence in all they do. Our teachers value excellence, as well as all-roundedness, and we are a very busy school. We enjoy that – it means that we drag every opportunity out of each moment of the day.
We are a well endowed and resourced school, and we are deeply conscious of the demands which such privilege makes on us. We have a vigourous Outreach programme with a number of our neighbouring schools, and some very special and mutually rewarding partnerships with them to pursue broader curriculum objectives.
Our strategic planning is geared around the 2010 vision which you can read about elsewhere in this website, and the school has made big strides in realizing many of the targets of that vision.
We believe that Bishops is a school in which learning is cherished and pursued vigourously. We have a strong high-tech environment, with huge resources in our intranet of learning programmes and laptop assisted instruction, but we know that at the heart of any learning are the human relationships between those who teach and those who learn. We are a part of South Africa’s national curriculum programme, and we support the educational aspirations of our nation.
If you are interested in finding out more about us, please get in touch and come and visit. We would love to show you round the school, and find out what your interests and excitements are. We would like you to get to know us, and we would like to get to know you.
