Head Of Music - Prep


Bishops Prep seeks to appoint an inspirational Head of Music who is passionate about the musical education of boys.

The Bishops Prep Music Department is a large, vibrant, and energetic department which offers a wide-ranging musical experience to boys from Grade N to Grade 7.

  • The music programme is deeply rooted in the daily life of every Bishops boy and is seen as an integral part of their education.
  • We offer tuition on a wide range of instruments (70% of Prep boys have music lessons).
  • There is a strong Ensemble programme.
  • There is a weekly, whole school, concert series.

The Head of Music is responsible for the leadership and management of music across the Prep and Pre-Prep. He/she will work collaboratively with the wider academic, sport and support staff and have an understanding of the role of music within our school. An awareness of instructional trends and innovations in music both locally and internationally is important. The Head of Music reports to the Director of Music. Members of staff are expected to support the Christian ethos of the school.

The successful candidate will have:

  • class music, ensemble management and conducting experience
  • appropriate music tertiary qualifications and management experience
  • the drive to lead and grow the vision and management of the Bishops Music Department
  • proven ability to effectively manage a team of full-time and part-time staff
  • experience in establishing music performance goals, and performance reviews
  • experience in preparing and managing budgets, as well as analysing costs
  • demonstrated ability to build co-operative relationships with boys, staff and parents
  • SACE registration
  • other skills and experience that will contribute to the broader school life.
