Bishops is seeking to appoint an experienced Finance Manager. The key purpose of the role is to lead and direct an effective financial management service for Bishops and to ensure efficient daily financial operation of the department. This position is central to all three schools (College, Prep and Pre-Prep) and reports directly to the Business Manager.
This role requires a self-starter, who understands monthly and statutory deadlines, takes initiative, and has a solution driven approach. The environment is busy, and the role is demanding in terms of variety, volume and requests from staff and stakeholders. A calm approach with attention to detail, good planning and structure are necessary. Honesty and integrity and the adoption of good governance practice is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance and management reporting
- Generate accurate and timeous management accounts for the School Executive, Finance and Risk Committee and BishComprehensively prepare for and head up the annual year end audit to meet the required standards. The audit is prepared in terms of International Financial Reporting Standards – entity specific.Be qualified and have experience in teaching the FET subject Information Technology from Grade 10 to Grade 12.
- Manage debtors and creditors and strictly apply the Fees Policy.
- Daily cash flow management ensuring the interest budget is achieved.
Budget and Forecasting
- Prepare zero based budgets, including Capex and integrated cash forecast.
- Conclude the annual budget within school calendar timelines.
- Generate and explain expense and cash flow forecasts with Business Manager
- Report income and expenditure for defined periods against annual budget
General Financial management
- Oversee the daily operation of the Finance Dept ensuring high standards of service delivery to all stake holders.
- Maintain efficient and effective internal controls to ensure an accurate school fee management system, payroll administration and service provider arrangements.
- Although the Finance Manager reports to the Business Manager, they are responsible for the preparation and presentation of required information for various sub-committees of Bishops Council (Finance and Risk, Investment and Scholarships and Bursaries)

Experience and skills required:
- A proven track record as a Finance Manager, managing and developing a team.
- BCom qualification or higher and completion of articles of clerkship / audit experience.
- Understanding of sound financial processes and internal accounting controls.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Excel (intermediate or better) and good Word and PowerPoint skills.
- Minimum of 7 years in a comprehensive financial reporting and compliance environment.
- Strong reasoning and analytical skills.
- High level of IT systems and accounting software knowledge.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Management experience in an educational environment would be advantageous.

We are seeking the services of an energetic, and passionate Mathematics teacher to join an experienced and successful team on a fixed term contract. mWe have a proud history of excellent matric results and learners are strongly encouraged to enter national competitions and develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.
The position is effective from 9 April to 12 June 2024 (Terms 2 and 3)
The successful candidate will:
Finance and management reporting
- Have Mathematics as a major, or at least the equivalent of Mathematics at a tertiary second year level.
- Have suitable experience (at least 5 years) in teaching Mathematics from Grade 8 – 12.
- Be willing to teach or have taught, AP Mathematics Grade 10 - 12.
- Be proficient in the use of a wide range of software for teaching and setting assessments.
- Be willing to participate in, and initiate conferences, workshops, and our Maths Society.
- Have a passion for Mathematics Olympiads.
- Have experience in external marking or be willing to gain experience.
- Show innovation, creativity, and motivation in the classroom as well as having high expectations of their learners.
- Have exceptional interpersonal skills and able to work effectively as a member of a team dedicated to the development of all learners.
- Be willing to run afternoon support sessions.
- Be expected to conduct themselves in line with the School’s Values and display Courage, Humility, and Integrity.

The Preparatory Music Department is looking for suitably qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic part-time teachers for the following instruments:

The Bishops Music Department is a large, vibrant and energetic department which offers a wide-ranging musical experience to boys from Grade R to Grade Twelve. Boys have the opportunity to take music as a subject (from grades 8 to 12), have extra-curricular individual lessons and be part of a varied ensemble and choral programme. Boys are entered for external examinations, eisteddfods and/or competitions, as appropriate. Part of the choral offering is grounded in the traditions of good Anglican church music, and its repertoire is varied and inclusive.
The Music Department has a large complement of full-time and part-time staff, including a Head of Academic Music at the College, Head of Music at the Preparatory School, Head of Pre-Prep Music and a Music Administrator.
The Director of Music is responsible for the leadership and management of music across the College, Prep ad Pre-Prep, will work collaboratively with the wider academic, sport and support staff, have an understanding of the role of music within our school and be aware of instructional trends and innovations in music both locally and internationally. The Director of Music reports to the Deputy Head of Culture. Members of staff are expected to support the Christian ethos of the school.
The successful candidate should be an experienced Head of Music, with the ability to teach Music as a subject to matriculation level, will be involved in the ensembles and oversee the extensive extra-curricular music programme.
The successful candidate will have:
- appropriate music tertiary qualifications and management experience to suit the appointment
- the drive to lead and grow the vision and management of the Bishops music department
- the proven ability to effectively manage a team of nine permanent and thirty part-time music staff
- experience in establishing music performance goals, and performance reviews.
- experience in preparing and managing budgets, as well as analysing costs
- demonstrated ability to build cooperative relationships with boys, staff and parents
- SACE registration
- other skills and experience that will contribute to the broader school life.
